RUTKA
ABOUT THE SHOW
RUTKA is a new indie-rock”musical based on the real diary of 14-year-old Rutka Laskier. Rutka's Noteboook captures her experiences living in the Jewish Ghetto in Bedzin, Poland for three months in 1943. When she was deported, Laskier left her diary behind—it was only discovered decades later, authenticated, and published in 2006. The musical follows Rutka and a group of her teenager friends coping with and finding their way through the unimaginable events which surround them. The book is by Neena Beber (Writer and Exec. Producer of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), music and lyrics by Jocelyn Makenzie and Jeremy Lloyd-Styles (indie-rock band Pearl and the Beard) and directed by Wendy C. Goldberg (18-Year Artistic Director of The Eugene O’Neill Center and 2-Time Chair of the Jury for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama). RUTKA will have its World Premiere run in October 2024.
